When you are waiting for your interview, find somewhere completely private such as the toilet and carry out the “Sarnoff Squeeze”. Simply search out this on the net and you will find that those feelings that were concerning you will have gone away. It’s a useful trick and it certainly does work.
Remember that the primary reason why you are in the room in the first instance is that the organisation needs to employ someone. It may as well be you and not anyone else. The interview is an artificial scenario and in many cases, the interviewer will be equally nervous.
When someone asks a question, they generally require an answer and preferably an answer to the question that they ask. It makes sense then that answering the question is the best thing to do. So many interviewees waffle on in job interviews and don’t answer the question. From the interviewer’s point of view, this is frustrating and annoying so please don’t do it.
